Web hosting

Hosting without running a server yourself — different from a VPS.

Where it fits

Web hosting is for sites that should stay up without you logging into Linux. You do not get root. Steady handles the platform: web server, SSL where the product includes it, and the control you see in the portal for that hosting service.

WordPress hosting is the same idea with WordPress as the application. A website subscription already includes hosting — do not buy both unless we tell you the site is moving off the subscription stack.

When to use a VPS instead

Choose a VPS when you need to install your own stack, run workers, use Docker, or hold databases that shared hosting will not allow. Root and SSH are the dividing line.
